Freelance Photographer

What qualifications, training, and skills would you need to become a Freelance Photographer?

In Freelance Photography, qualifications aren't essential, but can be very helpful in helping a future freelance photographer learn the techniques needed. A college course in Art or Media or Photography by itself are generally good courses to go for. Other than that, reading books, websites etc about camera techniques is a good way to learn also.

What qualities would make a good Freelance Photographer?

A successful freelancer needs to be comfortable in a leadership role, in this type of job, you're your own boss, so you also need to be comfortable having to make decisions about things. A freelance photographer also needs to be self-motivated, as said before, this job means being your own boss, which means telling yourself what you need to do and when you need to do it by and motivating yourself to do it by when you need it done by.

How much can you expect to earn being a Freelance Photographer?

As a Freelance Photographer, the amount of money earned can be extremely varied. You could earn as little as £20 per shot, or as much as £1000's + per set of shots, depending on the type of shots you've taken of course, e.g a tabloid photographer could get more earnings than say a wedding photographer because generally media outlets will pay for good images that will make good stories. So basically, the earning can be extremely differing.
